The album “A Pink-Filled Sky” was recorded live for a studio audience in 2010. It features seven original songs and three notable performances of standard jazz selections. An acoustic collaboration of voice, piano and double bass, the album features a spectrum of original contemporary jazz which reveals hints of Margot’s classical music background and improvisational tendencies. Captured live in concert, the recording showcases the trio’s penchant for in-the-moment arranging of standard jazz repertoire, their element of surprise and healthy irreverence echoed in the delighted applause of the live audience.

Winter Rime

Lyrics and Music by Gillian Margot

Sat in my window and listened to the quiet night
Ice forms casting shadows
Glistening snow falls in the moonlight
Silent snow flakes fall without a sound
Winter storm, I stay winter warm
Winter storm, I stay winter warm
Swirling, squalling, dancing, droplets freezing
At their frantic pace
Patterns on my window spreading magic
Swirls of frozen lace
Whistling wind singing into the night
Winter storm, I stay winter warm
Winter storm, I stay winter warm
Powder white sparkles glow across the empty park
Iron street lamps shining
Glowing circle spotlights in the dark
Wading feet drag across frozen ground
Winter rime, I see frost divine
Winter rime, I see frost divine

Kiss

Lyrics by Gillian Margot, Music by Jordan O’Connor

You are mine, come to me
Hear my sigh, my heart beats
Your touch, your skin
Move in slow, whisper sweet
Your kiss, your lips on mine
Your eyes meet mine
Oh how you move
How you know I want you too
I am yours, come to me
Your lips, your kiss
Oh how you move
How you know I want you
And the words you whisper to me
They speak of love that’s true
And they keep me waiting for you
It’s the touch of your hand
Move the earth where I stand
Your touch, your skin
Oh the state that I’m in
Your kiss, your lips on mine
Your eyes meet mine
Oh how you move
How you know I want you too

Red with Blue

Lyrics by Gillian Margot, Music by Jordan OʼConnor

Surrounded by the web of your imagination
Bounded by the story you created in your head
Tangled in the web of your imagination
Strangled by the story you conceived
Itʼs just a dream
Thereʼs no up without down
No smile without a frown
Donʼt you think itʼs funny?
Donʼt you think itʼs strange?
Even when thereʼs love, we want a taste of pain
Deep down you know
Thereʼs no lie without truth
Thereʼs no red without blue
Still Iʼm me without you
Itʼs just a dream
It never could have been
A pink-filled sky promises of a warm dawn
Of what might have been
Thereʼs no up without down
No smile without a frown
Donʼt you think itʼs funny?
Donʼt you think itʼs strange?
Even when itʼs good, we want to make a change
Thereʼs no up without down
No smile without a frown

January

Lyrics by Gillian Margot, Music by Jordan OʼConnor

Rescued from assimilation
Seeking a new situation
Within the writhing uncivilization of you.
Running from the ordinary
Happy to embrace the
Binary opposites within and without
Casting out all doubt.
Carry me pleasure, allow me the pain
Supersede your usual refrain.
Not much time for deep reflection
Iʼm calling for premature ejection
To keep on marching to my own tune
Carry me pleasure, allow me the pain
Supersede your usual refrain
I am still wrapped up inside
The uncivilization of you

A Pink-Filled Sky

Lyrics by Gillian Margot, Music by Jordan OʼConnor

I told you I was high as the moon in the sky
I saw that look in your eye
So soon you were mine I could fly
A pink-filled sky promises of a warm dawn
A vast impression I could have drawn
Green wet blades prickling my feet
The smell of fresh spring wafting down the street
Fawn, dawn, braun, spawn, lawn, along, bong,
wrong, strong dawn
Yellow morning smells like coffee cake
Threads of rain hang over my face
Tripping up my heavy pace
Drowning ants all over the place
Streaks of light gently touch my skin
Bathing me in an air of sin
Perfect balance of yang and yin
Shield the sun against my back
Its itchy warmth burns through my hat
Pressed to the earth alive and calm
Breathing particles from the lawn
Breathing particles from the lawn
Soft, wet ground pulling me down
Muddy footprints follow me around
Trees, breeze, tease, leas
Easy it frees
Purple evening glow keeps me awake
Keeps me awake

When We Danced

Lyrics by Gillian Margot

The moon was low
My heart beat, slow
And you turned to me
You said good night so softly that
I could hardly breathe.

Beneath the moon the band played a tune
And we began to sway.
You spoke to me so softly
That time drifted away.

When you danced with me
I felt the world spin with ease.
We laughed and we loved
while the moon shone up above that eve
When we danced.

With that look in your eye
I felt my heart would fly,
because I knew you were mine
And with the musicʼs end
We tried so hard to pretend
that we could handle the end that would be
When the moon was low and my heart beat slow and
You turned to me.
When you danced with me
I felt the world spin with ease.

When you held me close
the moment captured us both.
We danced and we swayed
while the moonlight set our stage that eve
When we danced
When we danced tonight.
